The issue of ignorance instigating terrorist ideas is also present in North Korea. Led by Kim Jong Un, the communist North Korean government has been making threats to unleash its nuclear weapons at the rest of the world. They are making these threats because they don't like western culture and its strong influence on the world, and they don't like western influence because their communist state leaves them ignorant from the benefits of being a capitalist nation. The North Koreans fail to recognize that western culture thrives across the globe because the principles it is based on, such as capitalism and democracy, are foreign topics to them. They refuse to understand that there are other ideas in the world other than communist ideas.
Ignorance
Ignorance is one if the main instigators to terrorist attacks. It is one of the main causes of conflict in Oedipus Rex, a play written by Ancient Greek playwright Sophocles and performed in 429 BC. In the story, Oedipus, the protagonist of the play, lives his life in ignorance of several horrible deeds he has committed. When his friend tries to convince him that he may possibly be living in ignorance, he lashes out and calls his friend a traitor for "trying to steal the throne". Oedipus then threatens to have him exiled for treason. In this situation, as in many others, someone has been subjected to disbelief and skepticism because they live in ignorance. People refuse to accept potential realities because their ignorance prevents them from seeing other scenarios, which is a very prominent issue because it can lead them to believe their perspective is the only one that could possibly be right, ruling out all of the other possible scenarios that exist. This problem is demonstrated in many more situations than only that of Oedipus.
